Eat a little, drink a lot: a recipe for the King's Day party at the Dutch embassy

Serves:

enough to get about 150 people drunk on fairly empty stomachs

Ingredients:
  •  1 large embassy, slightly stale:

  •  1 tiny queen, abdicated but not forgotten, wearing royal purple:

  •  1 drizzle of foamy beer, preferably the most undrinkable brand you can find:

  •  a very long queue for the free bitterballen:

  •  a huge dollop of disappointment at said, undercooked, bitterballen:

  • some random and slightly dodgy meat snacks, such as meatballs or hachee:

  • 1 flash of white bra:

  • 1 celebrity lookalike (hello, Halina Reijn):

  • a scattering of jealous looks (of the hair? of the multitude of snacks collected? of the retro glasses? We'll never know…):

  • and 1 extremely proud cheese man:

  • selected orange accessories, to garnish (optional):

Method:
Toss it all together, season generously with extra glugs of beer and serve lukewarm. Garnish with orange accessories if you like.

Oranjefeest 2014 - a party for and by Dutch people, organised once a year around King's Day (27 April) at the Dutch Embassy, Klosterstraße 50, 10179 Berlin. Entry with ticket only.
